Dr Gary Burnett


Dr Gary Burnett has been teaching New Testament at Union College since 2000. He was awarded his BSc degree in Psychology at Queens University Belfast, his BD at London University and his PhD in Theology at Queens. His research interest is in Paul, and in particular the letter to Romans, the subject of his 2001 book and a number of journal contributions.

Gary currently teaches courses in New Testament Greek, Romans, Pauline Epistles and Theology, and Introduction to Jesus and the Gospels. He has supervised at post-graduate level, including PhD and Masters students.

As well as teaching in Union, Gary is a Chartered IT Professional and a Fellow of the British Computer Society, and runs a boutique business consultancy, which specializes in helping high tech companies to grow and change. His career in the software industry has given him the opportunity to work in Europe, the United States and India.

An active member of Fitzroy Presbyterian, Gary is married to Christine and has two grown-up daughters. In addition, he has been involved in development projects in India for the last 20 years, as well as speaking at conferences of Christian leaders there. He is a keen surfer, guitarist and blues fan. His most recent book The Gospel According to the Blues (October 2014), an exploration of the Sermon on the Mount, combines his interests in blues history and the New Testament.
