Previous positions held

Since 1979, I have been: Assistant Minister in Dundonald and Hamilton Road congregations; interim minister in Seacombe URC congregation; lecturer in PCEA Pastoral Institute, adjunct tutor in St Paul’s Theological College, Limuru and Associate Minister in Kimuri Parish (all in Kenya); Lecturer in Belfast Bible College; Associate minister in Bloomfield congregation. Teaching experience and current responsibilities

I have taught courses in all theological disciplines to diploma level and in Practical Theology, Missiology, New Testament and Systematic Theology to degree level. As Professor of Practical Theology, I currently teach five of the seventeen courses offered by the department. I regularly supervise undergraduate Dissertations and Research Projects as well as postgraduates at both Masters and Doctoral levels.

For some years I have been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Areas of special interest

My three areas of special interest are grass-roots theological teaching, especially with respect to popular culture; exploring the interface between Biblical Studies and Practical Theology and developing a coherent theological approach to sport.

Personal interests or hobbies

I enjoy playing extremely bad golf, cooking, reading detective novels, contributing to various online discussion forums and watching 'undemanding' television.  I am a season ticket holder with Ulster Rugby and try to follow the Northern Ireland football team to one away game every year. Supported by my wife and two adult daughters, I try to be the best disciple of Jesus Christ that I can be.
