Advanced Hebrew

  • Union Module Code: Ad Heb
  • Queens Module Code: THE3021

Year 3

If you have done Hebrew at levels 1 and 2, here is the opportunity to consolidate your knowledge of the language and to acquire confidence in the reading of texts to a level of competence that will be invaluable both for preaching and for academic success.

The purpose of this course is to enable students to consolidate their knowledge and understanding of Hebrew grammar. Students will learn how to apply their knowledge of Hebrew to the translation of different types of literary material within the Old Testament.

The set texts will consist of key OT passages, chosen in conjunction with the students. The students will largely study the set texts outside of class time (with the aid of Bible Works or other appropriate software), with support from the tutor as required.

There will be 1-2 classes weekly.

The assessment pattern for this module is under review but currently the module is assessed by a two-hour examination (60%) and by coursework (40%).
