Are you thinking of teaching RE?

If you are thinking about a career in RE teaching, then here is some helpful advice from the School of Education at Queen’s about applying for the Religious Education PGCE course.

The essential criteria for the PGCE Religious Education course is now as follows:

An honours degree (2.2 or above) in Theology or Religious Studies

OR

A joint honours degree with Theology or Religious Studies (2.2 or above) where at least half of the content of the degree is relevant to the teaching of RE in the context of Northern Ireland

OR

An honours degree in a cognate area of Theology or Religious Studies (2.2 or above) where at least half of the content of the degree is relevant to the teaching of RE in the context of Northern Ireland

OR

A higher degree in Theology or Religious Studies.

In all cases students will be expected to show that they have studied a spread of content in their modules or field of research, having covered at least 3 from the following areas of study:

Biblical Studies; Church History; Theology; World Religions; Ethics; Philosophy.

These essential criteria will be used to select candidates for interview.

All this means that you should think carefully about your module choices as you progress through your degree programme. Our module fairs in the second semester each year will help you to make good choices.
