Module Structure & Content

Year 1

In the first year students take 3 Theology modules and the remaining from Philosophy.

Of the 3 Theology modules, one must be taken from each of the group below plus one other:

Biblical Studies

Systematic Theology/Church History/Pastoral Theology

Students will take three Philosophy modules, 2 compulsory and one optional.


  • Approaches to Philosophy
  • Philosophy and the Good Life


  • Human Nature
  • Perspectives on Politics

Year 2

In Year 2 students will take three Theology modules and three Philosophy modules.

Students must take one module from each of the groups below as well as one other:

Biblical Studies

Church History/Systematic Theology/Practical Theology

Students take three Philosophy modules from the available level 2 modules including two of the following:

  • PHL2000 Moral Theories
  • PHL2001 Epistemology
  • PHL 2012 Critical Thinking

Year 3

In Year 3 students take any 3 Theology modules, although for some this may be subject to the completion of pre-requisite modules at Level 2.

Students who wish to undertake an independent research module must only choose one module from this group.

Independent Research

Old Testament/New Testament

Church History/Theology/Philosophy

Practical Theology

Students will take 3 Philosophy modules from the list of available Level 3 modules. Alternatively, students may take a double-weighted dissertation plus ONE further module from the list of those available.
