Equipping Christians for ministry
and mission in today's world
Welcome to the Union
  • Ministerial Training and Development

One of the key functions of Union College is the training of students for the ordained ministry of the Presbyterian Church of Ireland (PCI) along with offering continued professional development for Ministers wishing to further their studies.

We also provide training courses for other forms of ministry - including training for Deaconesses and a new course is being developed for those in Youth Ministry. General courses in "ministry" which are open to applicants from other denominations are also available.

Applicants for Ministry Courses will be expected to be in full agreement with the College basis of faith.

Those interested in applying for any of our Ministry Courses should speak to the Administrator in the first instance.

The main details covered in the Ministerial Training & Development sections are:

  • The Postgraduate Diploma in Ministry relates theology to the practice of Ministry in the congregational context. It is normally taken concurrently with the BD/BTh or MDiv degrees - though in some circumstances it may be taken as a freestanding qualification. The PG DipMin serves as the standard course for ordained Ministry in The Presbyterian Church in Ireland (PCI). Details of the study pathways, application process and financial support for PCI Ministry training are available in the Becoming a Presbyterian Minister section.
  • Professional training for other forms of specialised Ministry e.g. Deaconess Training and Youth Ministry.
  • Professional in-service training courses for those in full-time Ministry - from short courses right up to DMin level.
