Equipping Christians for ministry
and mission in today's world
Welcome to the Union

Queen's UniversityUnion College is situated right at the heart of the Queen's University Campus, with immediate access to all the main University facilities (academic, social, sporting, library, etc). Our long tradition of academic excellence and practical training stretches back over 150 years. We also attach great importance to the contemporary relevance of Theology in the 21st century. Queen's University is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the UK and also one of the most innovative and forward looking .

Union College draws students from a wide age range (from school leaver to retired), and from all (or no) denominational backgrounds. Students come from all sections of the Northern Ireland Community, from other parts of the UK and Ireland and from overseas.

Union StudentThe College has a clear Christian ethos and those who wish to do so are welcome to take part in College Worship and Fellowship. Many of our students are at Union for a vocational training that will lead to formal ministry or mission. It is often possible to combine formal degree studies with ministry training programmes. Other students have no particular vocational aspirations but seek to study or research in Theology for general and academic interest.

Our degree courses are open to all applicants regardless of denomination or belief - and it is important to us that all our students feel welcome and at home whatever their background.

Union Faculty consists of five Professors (one for each major subject area) and one Senior Lecturer, whose qualifications and experience are unmatched in Northern Ireland. The Faculty are supported by a number of other lecturing and administrative staff. A close sense of community between Faculty and Staff is an important aspect of Union life.

Union Theological CollegeFor undergraduates a range of pathway options is available at Union. All students receive a foundation in all the main theological disciplines in their first year - and after that either specialise in one or more subject areas or continue to select modules across the disciplines. Module choices range from traditional academic through to modern and practical subjects (such as Youth Ministry). In all our modules we seek to combine academic excellence with contemporary relevance.

Union offers a much wider module choice and more opportunities to specialise than at any other Theological College in Belfast. You are also welcome to combine Theology with another Humanities subject in a major/minor or joint honours combination. You may also combine the academic study of Theology with practical training for ministry or mission, including our new Certificate/Diploma in Youth Ministry.

For postgraduates we offer three Masters degree options. The MDiv is designed for those whose first degree is in a subject other than Theology whereas the (taught) MTh and the (research) MPhil are designed for Theology graduates. Opportunities for study and research to PhD level are available in all the main theological disciplines. All postgraduate students enjoy a close working relationship with their supervisor.

The College Library is one of Union's main assets - especially for postgraduate students. Our collection of over 50,000 books, 20,000 pamphlets, and taking of over 80 theological journals, makes the Union Library a unique resource of theological study and research that is unparallel in Northern Ireland.
