King James Bible Online Exhibition

Ahead of the Martin Luther. Bible translator, illustrator and publisher Conference, scheduled to take place on 12-13 September 2022, we are releasing a third online exhibition. This exhibition looks at the background to the 1611 publication of the King James Bible, its printing, reception and interesting features of several of the Gamble Library’s King James Bibles. The influence of the King James Bible on Bible translation, language and literature, education and culture is also discussed. The King James Bible was not an immediate success but gradually grew in popularity until it became the dominant English Bible during most of the three hundred years following its publication. Its lasting dominance meant it had a very significant impact, details of which can be found in the online exhibition.

The Conference programme will be released in coming months - keep an eye on the Inkwells blog for this. Save the date so you can attend the Conference on 12-13 September. There will also be a physical exhibition in the Gamble Library running from early September.
