Dr Alex Pierce

Alexander H. Pierce (PhD, University of Notre Dame) is Assistant Professor of Historical Theology at the North American Lutheran Seminary, centered at Trinity Anglican Seminary. Dr. Pierce is the author of Augustine on the Mystery of Christ and the Sacramental Economy (Cambridge University Press, 2026) and Why Does Friendship Matter? (Lexham Press, 2021). He has published scholarly articles in Augustiniana, Augustinianum, Augustinian Studies, Journal of Early Christian Studies, Zeitschrift für Antikes Christentum, Church History, Studia Patristica, Journal of Theological Interpretation, and Pro Ecclesia. Dr. Pierce also serves as the general editor of Word & Sacrament: The Magazine of the North American Lutheran Seminary. He is an active member of the North American Patristics Society and the Society of Biblical Literature, where he serves on the steering committee of the Contextualizing North African Christianity program unit. Dr. Pierce is currently working on a translation of Roman African church councils (CCSL 149, ed. Munier) from around the time of Augustine for the Brepols Library of Christian Sources series. He lives in Clinton, PA with his wife, Cassandra, and their five children: Matthew, Josiah, Abigail, Noah, and Anna.
