Prof Gareth Cockerill

Gareth Lee Cockerill is Professor Emeritus of New Testament and Biblical Theology at Wesley Biblical Seminary, where he taught for thirty-five years. He also served for nine years as a missionary in Sierra Leone, West Africa. He is the author of The Epistle to the Hebrews (NICNT, 2012), Christian Faith in the Old Testament (Nelson, 2014) and Yesterday, Today, and Forever: Listening to Hebrews in the 21st Century (Cascade, 2022); and was one of the editors of the recent Scripture Collective volume entitled Divine Action and the On-Going Priesthood of Jesus (Zondervan, 2023). He is currently completing a book on the Gospel of Mark entitled The Jesus Question (Hendrickson, forthcoming). In addition to the Letter to the Hebrews, his interests include hermeneutics, the unity of Scripture, and the cross-cultural interpretation of Scripture.

Professor Cockerill holds the Ph.D. and Th.M. degrees in biblical studies from Union Theological Seminary in Virginia, the M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary, and the B.A. from Southern Wesleyan University.
