To mark the launch of new books by Sam Bostock and Martyn Cowan, Prof Crawford Gribben (Queen’s University Belfast) will chair a roundtable discussion with the authors on these new titles. The evening event on Monday 23 June at 7.30pm will be followed by light refreshments in the College Dining Hall.
The Rev’d Dr Sam Bostock is minister of First Presbyterian Church, Saintfield and a Research Associate of Union Theological College. Sam’s new monograph, entitled The Rise of the Covenant of Redemption in the Theology of Samuel Rutherford, will be published in Brill’s Studies in the History of Christian Traditions series. It represents the fruit of doctoral research that he completed at the College. The publisher will be offering a discount code for this title to those who attend the launch event.
The Rev’d Dr Martyn Cowan is Vice Principal and Lecturer in Historical Theology at Union Theological College. He has recently edited two volumes of a new 40-volume edition of the works of John Owen being published by Crossway: Sermons and Tracts from the Civil Wars (1646–1649), Vol. 18 and Sermons from the Commonwealth and Protectorate (1650–1659), Vol. 19. The publisher will be offering complementary copies of volume 18 to the first thirty people who sign up and attend the event.
Prof Crawford Gribben taught at the University of Manchester and Trinity College Dublin before taking up his present position at Queen’s University Belfast. He is the author of a number of studies of the literary cultures of puritanism and evangelicalism, with his recent scholarship finding its focus in the life and work of John Owen. The Principal of Union Theological College, Michael McClenahan, said that ‘this is an important moment in the life of our community and we warmly welcome students and friends of the college to join us as we reflect on these scholarly achievements. Prospective students of the college are also invited and will hopefully gain a taste of what it might be like to study in a research led community.’
